General rule about homework:
- if nothing specific is assigned, students should always have some sort of reading on the go and practice using a variety of reading strategies to improve comprehension
- use sticky notes to keep track of important parts in a book, questions to think about are to ask someone, actions by characters that indicate their traits, etc.
- utilize a personal "word wall" to keep track of new and interesting vocabulary and how it has been used
- Parents - ask questions about the text that will elicit deeper responses,
- E.g.: How did you feel when...?
- Explain what you think the character/author meant by...
- Describe what you pictured when...
- Share a prediction you had with me. What information helped lead you to this thinking?
- etc.
- can always work to improve their Math fluency using a variety of methods - mix of mental math and different algorithms, both student-generated and traditional
- having observed students typing in the computer lab, it is recommended that students also practise typing at home to develop speed and accuracy - typing.com accounts have been set up for each student
